From the time we ar born until the day we die, we are constantly interacting with the people more or less us. Social psychology helps us to identify different aspects of ourselves, and the environment in which we live and work. It gives us insight as to wherefore people judge others, and how the power of persuasion affects an soulfulness, group or a nation. Social psychology too helps us to clear how influences can lead us to scram obedient and to conform. It also addresses the many dilemmas we face in society as an individual or as a group.
When we think of our self, we have a pretty good idea about who we are as an individual. Everything we have learned throughout our life span up this point in our lives has an impact on who we have become today. Self-concept is a general term used to refer to how person thinks about or perceives themselves (Mcleod, 2008). Our feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and opinion of our self are a collection of things we know about our self (Feenstra, 2011). Im one of those people who worries a lot, and I keep my thoughts and feelings to myself. I think of myself as a worrier and this is one fashion model of self-concept.
For many years I knew I was gay, but I didnt let it be known to anyone. This again is other example of self-concept. For many reasons we as adults keep our thoughts and feelings private to avert scrutiny. However, the way we view our self has a lot to do with our self-schema. If I enjoyed traveling and took trips as often as I could, my schema would be a (tourist). If I saw a brochure advertising a trip to the Bahamas I would this instant associate it with a trip I had taken or would like to take. If I had the money I may fifty-fifty go so far as to book a trip to the Bahamas. This type of behavior would be linked to my self-schema. in that location are two types of self-awareness: private self-awareness, and public self-awareness.
