The play, King Lear, is a well-known tragedy written by William Shakespeare, set in Ancient Britain, said to be one of his greatest workings and was written somewhere between 1903 and 1606. The play is based on the character King Lear who is undertaking the dividing of his kingdom between his 3 daughters according to which one passions him most. This then resulting in family disputes and banishing his most love daughter (Cordelia) from the kingdom. Shakespeare then represents that gold and wealth can cover to insanity and intense suffering. This play shows large amounts of greed, lust for power, cruelty, love and death.
The universal message that was taken from this play over the course of a terms study was that even the best resignation and every family has its problems. Shakespeare goes against our natural ideology of money and wealth and shows that it get tos us great pain. Today this can and cant cause us pain for instance when a family member dies the money side can cause a family to crumble and it can also bring families back together.
