When my parents observed my atheist beliefs they blamed themselves for not having brought me up properly. My father thus far got me books on religion in the hope that I would be converted, but I could not find any power to start believing in an elusive god. At school I continued to pretend my faith in a higher power out of fear that I would be excluded on sharing my consecutive feelings. Although I celebrated festivals on a secular level, I felt extremely hypocritical in doing so as I did not weigh in the mythology or the religion. When I finally disclosed to everybody that I dont believe in god I understood the hardships of being an atheist especially in a religious country alike(p) India.
There is an unmistakable discolouration associated with atheism. Nonbelievers are looked down upon as immoral and treated like outcasts. My pious relatives constantly told me that I needed religion and god to have a moral compass. They feared that I would be consume astray due to lack of faith. However, I persevered in reason my beliefs or rather non-beliefs and in being true to myself.
Staying true to the title of a nonbeliever has proven to be a challenge, but a rewarding one. Being sincere rough my lack of faith has made me more confident, strong and honest.
