The Gettysburg Address is a speech that was given by the United States President Abraham Lincoln and is still to this day iodin of the best-known speeches in United States history (funny for it only universe a little over two minutes long). It was delivered by Lincoln, through the still present but fading mephitis of rotten flesh on the afternoon of Thursday, November 19, 1863, at the rank of what is now the Soldiers National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
This speech go down into perspective the fact of the Civil War and what was going on in the United States at that time. The purpose of this speech I think was to drive to rally the batch and the last of the be troops left. I as well think that this speech was to try and make it so that the soldiers were regarded as heros through the eyes of the towns states individuals, widows, and maybe even some highly most-valuable people throughout the community. It was probably also to try and muck up the comarodary of the opposing opposition and supporters that rallied against Lincoln at the time.
Certain things that I think Lincoln was move to get across to the people was the fact that the warfare was not in vain (although thousands of Americans were killed) and that people who fought and/or died in the war, then they should be remembered as heroes and families should be proud of the losses and to the dedication of their family members to the cause that they believed. This speech went for what I think would be the emotional crinkle, but I dont think that it was intended to be an actual argument but more of a justified statement. Lincoln was trying to show his gratitude and thanks for the way the union supporters had rallied around him and the war and that they were willing to lay down their own lives for what they believed in.
