Majority of students in colleges in colleges lack the ability to use good vocabulary for writing essays. A number of reasons can be used to explain the main cause of this problem. A major factor that has been identified as the main cause of this problem is the ignorance amongst students.
Most of the students especially those in colleges are very ignorant in the sense that they do not want to spend a little time looking for new words from the library. Majority of the students prefer to use their free time socializing with their friends. Other use their free time in engaging in unlawful activities like engaging in drugs. There is therefore a need for such students to understand the importance of making maximum use of their free time by way of doing constructive work. The teachers can also motivate the students to write enriched essays by using incentives such as rewards to the best performers in essay writing.
Those students who portray maximum use of vocabularies in their essays should be recognized by way of rewards. This would then turn as a very big challenge to students who produce very vague essays. As way of catching with other students, the weaker students will also try to learn more vocabularies that can be used during essay writing and as a result be able to come up with enriched essay.
In addition, the teachers can encourage the student to form discussion groups whereby they can assist each other in learning new vocabularies to be used in essay writing. This will go along way in improving the different essays written by students.
